Pre-season training will begin in July with three to four sessions a week. During the week you will receive 9 to 15 hours of coaching which will take place during the day. Players will be expected to be punctual and prepared.
The academy training will take place at Yaxley Football Club, where there is a state-of-the-art 3G football pitch as well as high quality and well prepared football and training pitches.
What training will I receive?
The Academy will cover all aspects of Attacking and Defending from isolated practices through to Small-Sided Games, Unit of play and Functions of Play. You will also receive a training schedule that includes Individual Fitness such as Endurance, Speed & Core Stability Tests. Players will also take part in modules covering Individual Assessment, Video Analysis and Nutritional Advice.
Who will coach me?
The Football programme will be delivered by Ex-Peterborough United Player and UEFA ‘A’’ License holder Domenico Genovese, together with experienced UEFA coaches with ex-professional backgrounds. Each player will have a dedicated coach to work with. In addition to the coaching staff there is a manager who will oversee the running of the programme and a physiotherapist that will attend to medical matters.
Is there a goalkeeping coach?
All Goalkeepers will receive specialist goalkeeping sessions by a experienced and FA Qualified Goalkeeping Coach.
Who will I play for?
There are a number of teams playing at different levels. The head coach will place you in an appropriate team at the beginning of the season but this may alter depending on your performance throughout the season. We run teams in the British College, this will not affect you playing for your Sunday side, should you wish to do so.
When will I play?
The U19 British College League games are played on a Wednesday afternoon with transport provided. Players will then progress through Football clubs that we have links with in the National Football League Pyramid System, Step 6 and above.
Where & Why do I need to study as well?
All Academic studies will take place at Yaxley Football Club, where there is a state of the art 3G pitch and a fully equipped IT Room. Your study programme is an equally important part of the development programme and you will be taken to your studies after training. We do promise to improve your fitness and football skills but we cannot promise to make you a professional football player. With this in mind, it is important for you to be realistic and apply the same dedication to your studies. Some of our past players have made a career out of professional and non-professional football but it is a very difficult industry to break in to and you need an educational back up.
What Courses will I study?
The course of study is a two-year programme offering BTEC Diploma in Sports Level 3 or the BTEC Sub-Diploma Level 2 depending on GCSE exam results. The qualifications will give you a pathway to University Courses or work in the Sports and Leisure industry. Example of units covered, Principles of Anatomy & Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Risk in Sport, Sports Coaching, Fitness Testing for Sport & Exercise, Analysis of Sport Performance Technical & Tactical Skills in Sport.
Can I gain any coaching qualifications?
In addition to your main study programme, you will be able to study the FA Coaching Certificate Level 1 and depending on the recommendation from the FA Assessor the FA Coaching Certificate Level 2.
